Pesky Parakeets and Pest Control

Pesky Parakeets and Pest Control

Parakeets are thriving in parts of London, Beautiful they may be, but parakeets are extremely noisy and also very destructive and are becoming more and more of a pest control problem.

An exotic-looking bird, with a green body, red beak and a pink and black ring around its neck, the ring necked parakeet can grow to over 40cm.

As well as loving dense trees, parakeets have a tendency to want to nest in the sides of buildings, and commonly pull off vent covers with their powerful beaks.

Many will not know that parakeets are covered by our GL41 licence, as they are an invasive species, and we are fully entitled to act if you have problem with them.

Parakeet numbers first exploded on Richmond and Kew before crossing the River Thames, taking over islands on the river and establishing themselves in Hyde Park and Regents Park and in Kensington Gardens.
These plucky parrots have since moved North to Hamstead Heath and Highgate, west into Holland Park and Notting Hill, and east along the Regents Cana; into Hackney and Walthamstow Marshes. And they are clearly not bothered by the London winter.

London parakeet numbers certainly are in the tens of thousands; possibly over 100,000 now.

At Pest Professionals we find ourselves evicting unwanted parakeets more and more, and proofing to stop them returning, all done legally under licence.
